People Flock to Public Cemeteries Before Start of Ramadan

With the start of Ramadan only a few days away, people are flocking public cemeteries (TPU) in Jakarta to perform the ritual of visiting the graves of their loved ones before the fasting month.

This has become our family tradition because Ramadan falls next month

One of them is Tegal TPU on Jalan Benda Raya, Tegal Alur, Kalideres, West Jakarta.

Based on the information gathered, the cemetery began to be crowded with pilgrims from children to elderly since 8 AM. Even, it also causes traffic jams on Jalan Benda Raya.

Fadli (31), a resident of RT 01/08, Tubagus Angke admitted that he routinely visited the Tegal Alur TPU with his family every time before Ramadan.

"This has become our family tradition because Ramadan falls next month," he admitted, Sunday (3/27).

Similar statement also came out from Rasmini (43), a resident of RT 08/03, Tegal Alur. Together with her husband and child, she always visited her parents' graves in Blok AA I Tegal Alur before Ramadan.

"This is our routine activity ahead of Ramadan, including also during Eid al-Fitr," she said.
